The Pearl River passes through the main urban area of Guangzhou from west to east, and is divided into the front channel and the back channel in Shamian Island. The front channel passes Guangdong Customs, Beijing Road, Marshal’s Mansion, Canton Tower and other buildings that witnessed the city’s rich history and soaring economy. The Back Channel is like an outcast of the city, except for real estate developers, few people mention its name. Under the cloud image, only the factory chimneys are clearly visible.
This work is a record of the edge of the city. In the most developed city in southern China, people living on the edge of the post-industrial landscape are experiencing a divided life. The city is like a mirage in the distance, and they float with the river.
